The bit you never see is the bit that fails
A roof or a driveway is only as good as what is underneath it, and that is exactly the part a cheap price comes out of. Nobody photographs the membrane, the battens or the sub-base, so nobody checks them.
We photograph ours. On the roof: breathable membrane, treated battens, every tile mechanically fixed, ridge and verge dry-fixed so there is no mortar to crack and wash out. On the ground: dig out to firm subgrade, geotextile membrane, MOT Type 1 compacted in layers, correct falls, haunched edge restraints.
It is not glamorous and it is not the cheapest way to do it. It is the reason the job is still flat and watertight in fifteen years.
The four towns we work in
Southridge is a local firm, not a national call centre that sends whoever is free. Four towns, plus the streets around them. If you are just outside, ring and ask.
Beckenham
Big Victorian and Edwardian villas, and a lot of 1920s and 30s detached with tile hanging and deep frontages. Roofs here are large enough that a proper re-roof usually beats patching, and the wide front gardens are the ones that suit block paving with a real edge restraint and somewhere for the water to go.
Chislehurst
The grand end of the patch. Large period houses on big plots, plenty of them near protected trees or inside conservation area boundaries. The roofs are steep and complicated: valleys, chimney stacks, lead flashings and awkward scaffold. That is the work we want, and the work most firms quote nervously.
Catford
Edwardian terraces and villas, including the Corbett Estate and Culverley Green. Long shared roof slopes, tall stacks and original guttering that has usually had enough. Most of what gets asked for here is roof repairs, chimney rebuilds, new fascias, soffits and guttering, and turning a small front garden into parking that actually drains.
Blackheath
Conservation area territory. Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian houses where the roof has to look right as well as keep the water out: natural slate, proper lead valleys and flashings, repairs matched to what is already there. If your job is likely to need permission, we will say so before you spend anything.

Roofers have a bad name. We work the opposite way round.
